The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 7th November 2010.
A variety of lanterns were installed on this road; two remotely-geared Simplex Aries 35 Watt SOX lanterns lit the main carriageway.
A GEC Z5698U then lit the turning area. I don't know what purpose the rag around the column serves; perhaps it is a makeshift scarf! The new column here would be situated in the same hole that the outgoing column vacated.
The next few installations were situated on a footpath that meandered through an open space.
A 1980s' Thorn Gamma 6 was first; this was fitted to an Abacus base-hinged column.
Another Z5698U followed. Sadly, some moron had decided to damage the lantern's bowl, though the toughness of the polycarbonate is evident - only a small portion was broken.
A Thorn Beta 5 attached to a Fabrikat base-hinged column was next.
The second Gamma 6 had also been vandalised.
The Gamma 6's bowl is not held in place as firmly as the Z5698U's is - this one has slipped down onto the base casting.
Another Beta 5 was installed on another part of the path.
The close-up reveals that all was not completely well with this lantern either - the bowl was taped in place, and the lamp support was missing.
A Philips MI 26 was fitted to the last column on the footpath. This did not have a replacement PFI column installed alongside, and may not be due for removal as part of this scheme.
