The following photographs were taken on Sunday, 26th September 2010.

The new columns are of an 8 m mounting height.

The new lanterns run Cosmo-White lamps.

A 5 m column supporting a 1980s' Thorn Beta 5 was due for removal as part of this scheme.

The lantern was fitted with a Philips SOX lamp, and Royce Thompson SC1000 photocell.

The footways on Stratford Road are very wide - the new columns are all sited to the rear of the footways; however, an outgoing Stanton 7 concrete column visible in the background of this photograph was situated right at the front of the footway.

The new lanterns are fitted with photocells that switch on when ambient levels reduce to lower than 35 Lux, and then switch off again at 18 Lux the following morning.

The sleeve bracket fitted to the concrete column was developing rust patches in parts. Another Beta 5 is seen here.

A general view of Stratford Road follows; notice the gradient on which the road is built.

A Philips MI 50 was next (visible to the right of the above picture).

We return to Beta 5s for the next outgoing installation. This lantern was fitted to a swan neck bracket with a particularly large kickback - perhaps a top-entry lantern was once installed here. The column is a 15 ft Stewart and Lloyd.

A 6 m PFI-style column supporting a minicelled (don't look that word up in a dictionary; you won't find it) second-hand 70 Watt SON Iridium was also up for removal.

A hockey stick column dating from the mid 2000s followed. Yet another Beta 5 was fitted to this column.

The final column before Mansfield Road also supported a swan neck bracket, although this column was not a Stewart and Lloyd design. A day after these photographs were taken, a trial 30 mph speed limit was introduced on Mansfield Road. The yellow sign in the background provided advanced warning for this change.

Moving back up the road, a Philips SGS 203 (the Iridium's ancestor) located in an adjacent car park would become another casualty of the PFI. However, another SGS 203 in this car park looked to be being retained, owing to it not being a 'Street Lighting' installation - if that makes sense!

The aluminium chassis of the SGS 203 showed signs of corrosion - a common occurrence on this type of lantern, and also with the Iridium, to some extent.
