Derby's Street Lighting PFI Contract
Trinity Street, City Centre
The existing lighting consisted of the following items in 1997. Notice that the third column has a rather unhelpful location description!
Seq. No. | Lamp Number | Location | Lamp Type | Watt | Isolation Point |
1 | 36164 | OS NIGHTINGALE CTRE | SXPL2 | 90 | Y |
2 | 36165 | OS NIGHTINGALE CTRE | SXPL2 | 55 | |
3 | 98335 | NONE | SXPL2 | 55 |
The following photographs were taken on Saturday, 30th October 2010.
A Stewart and Lloyd column fitted with a Thorn Alpha 1 lantern was first from London Road. The old column dwarfed the replacement 6 m column positioned alongside.
The boarded-up building in the background was home to the Nightingale Macmillan Unit until May 2009, when it relocated to a new unit at the Royal Derby Hospital (what the City General Hospital is now known as).
The new column fitted snugly below one of the building's roof lines.
The outgoing column height now reduced to 6 m. A GEC Z9538 lit this section of the road. The lantern is not fitted with a photocell socket; it is believed that this installation was switched from the Alpha 1 column, further up the road.
The final column on Trinity Street before the road became Carrington Street was leaning quite noticeably.
