1967 Tube Stock Farewell Tour Gallery 6

"This is a Victoria line train to...Blackhorse Road", apparently!

Notice that the ‘New Johnston’ typeface has had to be narrowed, in order for the full destination to fit on the blind.

Thank goodness that the same technique was not used for Highbury & Islington!

The famous ‘Butterfly’ device on one of the cars.

Looking through the interconnecting door of Car 4033.

While the train had its ‘drink’ of WD40 standing by in the refurbished centre cab, a far more ‘human’ drink was provided in the un-refurbished cab!

The train only just fitted in the platform at Ealing Broadway - as it was, only the rear single-leaf door of the leading car could be opened!

Classic ‘No Smoking’ roundel.

Doors within doors are observed here, thanks to the presence of a 1992 Stock on the adjoining Central line platform.

A slightly more atmospheric photograph of an interconnecting door here.

Having arrived back at Seven Sisters, the train’s last ever passengers alighted, and the train slowly pulled out of Platform 4 for the final time. A constant sounding of the whistle resonated through the platform as the train entered the tunnel, back to its home of over forty years - Northumberland Park Depot.

This train would return to Acton the following Tuesday (17th May), but on this occasion, it would not be coming back. Its life on the Underground network was over - before long, it would be split into its individual cars, which would then be transported by road to C.F. Booth of Rotherham, for scrapping.

Nevertheless, the old train went out in a blaze of glory - every seat had been bought for the railtour, and virtually all were filled on the day - an excellent way to commemorate all of those many years of sterling service.

A big thank you to everyone who played a part in the organisation and operation of this tour - it was a truly amazing day, and one I, at least, will remember forever.

The final passenger run for the 1967 Tube Stock on the Victoria line occurred in the evening of Thursday, 30th June 2011; meaning that these once space-age trains are now confined to history. Sadly, I was not there to witness the final run, but many other enthusiasts were present, and gave this revolutionary stock a very well-deserved send-off.
