Local Thorn R2L2s

The R2L2 is an uncommon lantern in Derbyshire; the only two known locations where they are used being a small housing development in Spondon, and the slip roads of the M1 motorway at Junction 29, for Chesterfield. Although the lanterns are also used on the re-shaped interchange between the M1 and A50 at Kegworth, this is in Leicestershire, and so does not qualify as a 'local' lighting installation.

This is one of the Spondon examples; the site being off Pheasant Field Drive.

A Telensa Telecell aerial can be seen emerging from the top of the lantern, offering remote switching and dimming, although the latter function is possibly not configured currently.

The LED array comprises 36 individual lighting points (totalling 50 Watts per lantern), with a Wide Road optic employed.

This example is to be found elsewhere on the Development.

The R2L2's aluminium bodywork is of rather substantial construction, making for a rather heavy lantern. By comparison, sister lantern the Isaro Pro, is a much lighter lantern, and is also more modular in its construction - a feature that is not present with the R2L2.
