109FD. Main Street, Sawdon, North Yorkshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed along Main Street are four 5 m columns that all still supported lanterns running 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps in September 2024. These comprise a GEC Z8896, two Z5591NPs, and an AC Ford AC 850.

The column supporting the Z8896 is the most northerly of the three, along Main Street.

A Royce Thompson Oasis 1000 photocell, dating from the early 2000s, switches the lantern automatically.

The installation features a rather angular swan neck bracket.

Passing two cables (one to supply the lamp; the other, to supply the photocell) through such a sharply-bending bracket must have been difficult.

The column supporting the Z5591NP is situated opposite Chapel Lane.

This also uses an Oasis 1000; albeit, the type with a 20 mm connector, owing to the Z5591's canopy being too narrow to accommodate a NEMA photocell socket. A small hole exists in this lantern's bowl.

The second, identical column supporting a Z5591 is within the main village area. A red K6 telephone kiosk still survives nearby too.

These columns are of the same design as the one seen in Brompton is, with the swan neck forming part of the column.

The AC 850 is supported by a Stanton 1805 concrete column.

For saying that the 1805 type has (largely) disappeared in most areas, owing to structural issues that were only discovered in the years following production, this example is still free from any cracks or signs of spalling around the bracket joint.

This Oasis 1000 is a NEMA type once again, but looks to have developed a slight water ingress issue - not that this appears to be causing any fault with the lantern's operation...unlike other photocell types!
