111D. Tamworth Road, Two Gates, Tamworth, Staffordshire Located south of the Peelers Way roundabout are a number of 30 ft (10 m) Cohen tubular steel columns dating from the 1960s, with four of the columns still supporting their original Revo 'Hyperion B' A42.304 lanterns at the time of picturing in June 2024 (although, these were on borrowed time, with other Hyperions having been removed already). The Hyperion was designed around the linear low pressure sodium (SLI/H) lamp, although some versions were adapted by Revo to accommodate single-ended (135 Watt SOX) lamps instead, my own included, and these are likely to be the same, rather than being converted to SOX use in service.

The southernmost of the remaining Hyperions is pictured first, with two of the other columns carrying these rare lanterns visible behind.

A Zodion SS55 two-part photocell detector is visible towards the rear of the lantern's canopy.

A feature of this version of the Hyperion is the inverted V that is moulded into the underside of the bowl, to avoid creating a "pool" of light immediately beneath the lantern - this is optimised for the linear lamp, which would be positioned centrally within the lantern, whereas the SOX lamp would be slightly offset.

The second column, photographed from the other direction to the first.

The columns all incorporate cranked brackets. Cohen columns often suffer corrosion issues at their bracket joints, which are not always visible from an external inspection.

The third consecutive Hyperion-topped column swapped to the other side of the road, to clear it from adjacent driveway accesses.

A full-sized photocell (either NEMA socket or 20 mm threaded) was fitted to this example.

The fourth column was located a little further up the hill.

The lantern bears a casual resemblance to the GEC Z9554, although it is actually larger.

Also of note in the vicinity was this Concrete Utilities' (Phosware) 15 ft (5 m) 'Estate Minor X' column supporting a P178 lantern.

Surprisingly, both the canopy and bowl are rather mossy.
