111G. Off Silver Link Road, Glascote Heath, Tamworth, Staffordshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Situated within a garden on a footpath between Silver Link Road and Cambrian is a 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 10 concrete column fitted with a GEC Z5681 lantern, for 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps. When photographed in September 2024, the lantern was dayburning; albeit, very dimly, suggesting that the lamp had been operating continuously for an extended amount of time. As all surrounding columns were all modern tubular steel types supporting LED lanterns, I assume that this installation was in private (or no) ownership; hence, how such an installation could continue to remain extant and operational without any maintenance being undertaken on it for a long time.
Vehicular access to the column would be difficult, although not impossible, which could be another reason for its remaining.
The very dull glow of the worn-out MBF lamp is just visible within the lantern's translucent bowl. A 1970s' Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell detector is visible on the Z5681's canopy - no doubt, a wire connected to the bi-metallic switch in the P42's remote relay has detached, causing the lantern to operate constantly.
