113DAA. Off Wellingborough Road, Sywell, Northamptonshire Installed in the car park area for a warehousing company near the historical Sywell Aerodrome complex are four 25 ft (8 m) Stewart & Lloyd tubular steel columns supporting 1960s' Revo C13723/S "Dalek" lanterns. Designed for 140 Watt SO/H and SOI/H, and 100 Watt (original rating) / 90 Watt (later rating) 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium), the C13723 was an evolution of Revo's earlier "Silvergold" range, with early versions featuring bowls that comprised separate glass and Perspex panels. By the 1960s, this more expensive arrangement was replaced with a one-part all-Perspex bowl instead, and this is the version that these examples are.
Two columns are positioned by the single-storey security office, with the two additional columns installed alongside the main building.
As the columns are all fitted with LED floodlights (and discharge floodlights prior to that), the original lanterns may have been disused for many years.
The famous dimply bowls on these lanterns is the reason that they are nicknamed "Daleks" by collectors.
The two vertical lines that emanate from the two bowl hinges are not cracks in the Perspex, but rusty drip runs from the nuts and bolts that attach the hinges to the bowls.
All of the bowls on these examples have become translucent over time.
The rearmost of the four installations demonstrates favourably the short outreaches of these particular brackets.
