113G. Dallacre Drive / Springfield Road, Wilbarston, Northamptonshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed on both of these roads are several installations that carry notable lanterns - all of which still ran 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps in June 2024. Both streets were constructed in around 1971/2, going on the ages of the electricity supplies entering the properties along the two roads.
Dallacre Drive is home to this rare CU Phosco (Phosware) P177 lantern, attached to a 'Byway X' 15 ft (5 m) concrete column made by the company's column division, Concrete Utilities.
As can be seen, the lantern was dayburning at the time of photographing, revealing the off-white appearance of the mercury lamp. As is typical with Phosware lanterns, the retaining ring that supports the glass refractor bowl is secured to the lantern body using an 'Oddie' key.
A 15 degree side-entry bracket is employed. From this view, a small amount of damage is visible to the underside of the bowl.
This ELECO HW-918 is to be found attached to a 5 m hockey stick column at the end of Springfield Road.
A (rather grubby) Perspex bowl is employed here.
Further up the road, another Byway X column, also supporting a P177, was to be found.
A narrow gap in the concrete exists at the point where the column and bracket meet.
Here, the lantern is extinguished, although the bowl appears to been in close proximity to some past spray painting activity, or similar.
Another hockey stick column, this time, supporting a GEC Z8491, followed.
Unlike the later Z8896, the Z8591 features a raised section of its canopy to accommodate the side-entry bracket.
This too uses a glass bowl.
