113I. Great Cransley, Northamptonshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. A small number of AC Ford lanterns running 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps continue in nightly in service in 2024 throughout this village, as the following pictures will confirm.
This AC 850, attached to a 5 m hockey stick column, is one of several to be found on Loddington Road.
A 1980s' Royce Thompson P5 photocell provides the necessary automatic switching - this may be the lantern's original photocell.
Two further examples were visible further along the road, with the rearmost example day burning, and thereby confirming the lamp type employed, owing to the green hue emitted by the MBF lamp.
Bridle Lane was home to two installations too.
A SELC / Westire photocell was employed here.
An older Stewart & Lloyd column was to be found around the corner.
This example featured a top-entry swan-neck bracket.
The AC 888 lantern uses a Zodion SS6 photocell.
The rather sturdy inspection door hinges to the right, and is secured with two large square-head bolts.
