12AB. Parkway Trading Estate, off Cranford Lane, Rectory Hartlands, London Borough of Hounslow Situated within a central splitter island at the Trading Estate road's junction with Cranford Lane is a 25 ft (8 m) tubular steel column supporting a CU Phosco (Phosware) P169 post-top lantern, intended for running up to four 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour), SON (high pressure sodium) or metal halide (MBI) lamps. This design of lantern provides a general spread of light, rather than having the beam concentrated in a specific direction, making its use in the scenario seen here seem particularly suitable.
Although there is nothing obvious to determine whether the lantern still works or not, the presence of illuminated bollards in the same splitter island suggest that it may serve as the feed point to them, if nothing else.
Both the column and the lantern have slight leans, which, owing to the size of the lantern (4 ft / 1109 mm in diameter; 16 inches / 2 ft 3 1/8 inch / 689 mm in height), makes it appear especially unsteady.
From viewing the lantern from directly below, we see that it isn't mounted centrally on the column.
A large thumbscrew positioned on the centre of the canopy holds the lantern together under normal circumstances.
