12KAA. Former Henry Raine School, Approach Road, Bethnal Green, London Borough of Tower Hamlets Situated either side of a short flight of steps are two ornate cast iron plinths; both of which support GEC Z5640 post-top lanterns. Sadly, the left-hand example has lost its canopy (probably owing to the school's closure in 2020, along with the low height of the plinths), but when pictured in July 2023, the right-hand example remained fully intact.

The right-hand example is pictured first.

Both examples are likely to be significantly older than my own example is, as that features a polycarbonate bowl, whereas these use Perspex instead. Surprisingly, this has not lost too much of its transparency on either of the examples.

Despite the missing canopy, the plastic parts remained in place, and were undamaged when pictured.

Another indicator of the lanterns' age is that the wiring to the lampholder on the damaged example is asbestos-sheathed.
