131AA. Baxtergate, Whitby, North Yorkshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Installed alongside the church of Saint John the Evangelist is an 8 m GEC sheet steel column supporting a Z8430CM lantern, designed for running a 250 - 400 Watt MBF (high pressure mercury vapour) lamp, although this may not be what the lantern runs any longer, as a nearby Z8600 / MRL 6, designed for running a 150 - 250 Watt SON (high pressure sodium) lamp, was now equipped with a retro-fit LED solution instead.
Although the Z8430CM has its roots in the late 1950s (as the Z8430, which ran medium pressure mercury lamps instead), I believe that this installation is probably from the 1970s - the Z8430CM still being produced in that decade.
The angular bracket section appears to fit over the top of the column, much as a sleeve would for a concrete column.
The prismatic glass refractor bowl is fully intact, and looks clean internally.
The column is sandwiched into a small gap in the church's perimeter wall.
Baxtergate is narrow, with an especially tight section just after the column, from this direction. No street lighting is provided along that part at all, making this installation all the more important.
A NEMA photocell socket, fitted with a SELC / Westire 841 unit, is positioned on this side of the lantern canopy.
