134AAA. Gutteridge Lane, How Green, Stapleford Abbotts, Romford, Essex With thanks to 'Andrewneale9147' for informing me of this Survivor. Situated within a heavily-overgrown area, and leaning rather precariously, is a 15 ft (5 m) concrete column (possibly, a Concrete Utilities' "Estate Minor") and swan neck bracket, supporting the remains of a GEC Z5580-series lantern. Formerly, what is now this part of Gutteridge Lane was the main Stapleford Road, until it became an access road only after a new, straighter section of road replaced it to the west. Although this installation may be a remnant from the old road alignment, it is still well away from the carriageway, and the swan neck bracket does not face the correct direction either. A map produced during the planning or construction of the new road indicates that the start of a lane leading to High House Farm did exist in the now-overgrown area, so the column may have been installed at the junction of that.
Such is the extensive growth of the vegetation that close access to the leaning column is not possible without using cutting equipment to slice a path through.
Assuming that the contractor that installed the column hadn't merely forgotten their spirit level prior to commencing work, the column may be leaning due to ground conditions, or by being pushed out of vertical by a vehicle. A small crack passes down the column from its joint with the bracket.
The Z5580's bowl is long gone, leaving only the aluminium canopy and bowl ring remaining.
The smashed remains of a lamp appear to be in place in the centre of the lantern.
