134AE. Mayflower Way, Ongar, Essex With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Located a short distance up from the High Street, where the former London Underground Central line's eastern terminus station is located, stands a Concrete Utilities' 'Estate Minor' column supporting an 'Arc 2' top-entry bracket, which in 2023, was fitted with a Thorn Beta 5 35 Watt SOX lantern. This will be a replacement for an older lantern, however, especially if the column was installed when the road was built, which, judging by the style of the properties, would have been the 1950s or 60s.
The majority of the columns on this estate are now modern tubular steels, though a cut-down Estate Minor was spotted on the adjoining Onslow Gardens. Prior to this, it had been sleeved, however.
The Beta 5 is fitted with a Telensa radio node; a replacement for the original photocell control.
Unusually, a polycarbonate bowl is fitted - the plastic having discoloured slightly over the course of its time on the road.
