134AD. Weald Bridge Road, North Weald, Epping, Essex With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Situated on a wooden pole for supporting the overhead electricity cabling along this road is a GEC Z5580 lantern, which may have still been running an 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp when the installation was pictured in August 2023.
Remarkably, the pole to which the bracket is installed is relatively new, having been installed at some point after October 2014. This means that the bracket, fuse box and lantern were all transferred over to the new pole, rather than having a replacement bracket installed.
The top-entry finial design suggests that the bracket is an AC Ford product.
The Z5580 sports a 'Plastifractor' bowl - often, these show stress cracks, owing to age, although the cracks are fairly minimal on this example, and exist mainly on the front of the bowl.
The crazing becomes more visible from this angle.
The non-tapering neck section of the Z5580 allows it to be differentiated from the similar Z5540 and Z5560 models, while the exposed bowl support ring proves that it isn't a Z5590.
The control gear / fuse box carries 'Gowshall' branding - a company more commonly associated with signage products.
