13B. Dark Lane, Alrewas, Staffordshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Situated near the junction of Park Road is a Stanton 10F 15 ft (5 m) concrete column, complete with an ELECO GR 501 lantern running a 35 Watt SOX lamp. A second column on the road also used to carry an identical lantern, but this had been removed by 2011; a Philips MI 26 serving as the replacement.

Unusually for its age, the column door is positioned to face to the right, rather than across the road. Whilst this is common practice with modern columns (as it allows anyone working on the base to keep an eye on any approaching traffic), it would have been uncommon in the 1970s, when this column was installed.

The lantern is capable of accommodating larger 55 Watt lamps too, but the internal lamp support is positioned to allow 35 Watt lamps to be used as an alternative, as is the case here, ensuring that Dark Lane was not made overly bright! As this is Staffordshire, the lamp fitted is probably a 26 Watt SOX-E, however, which is the same physical size as a 35 Watt lamp is.
