164AB. Snitterfield Road, Bearley, Warwickshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Located near the Birmingham Road junction are two Simplex Diadem Major lanterns attached to older pole brackets made by Revo, the company that, ultimately, ended up becoming part of Simplex. The Diadem Major is the integrally-geared version of the standard Diadem lantern, and whilst Revo also produced a version of it, the later Simplex version was far more common. Typically, the lantern (in Revo, Relite and Simplex forms) was wired for running an 80 or 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp, although some of the later Simplex options also had high pressure sodium (SON) lamp options.
The first example is to be found at the junction of Oaktree Close.
As can be seen, the bowl is missing from this example, and has been absent since some point after 2010.
The rear panel, concealing the control gear components, remains in place, however.
A Venture-made 80 Watt MBF lamp is installed.
Surprisingly, there is no dedicated earth conductor emerging from the fuse box, although the neutral may double up as this.
The coffin-shaped cast iron fuse box has lost most of its paint.
The other Diadem Major is a little further west along Snitterfield Road.
This example retains its bowl. Despite the wooden pole having been replaced at some point after December 2021, the old pole bracket and lantern were re-used.
