164B. Vicarage Road, Flecknoe, Rugby, Warwickshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Vicarage Road is home to two Thorn Beta 4 lanterns, with one attached to a wooden pole; the other, fitted to a Stanton 10F 15 ft (5 m) concrete column. Owing to the rural nature of the village, as well as its small size, these are the only two street lights in Flecknoe, which must make them appear especially bright, despite both Beta 4 polycarbonate bowls having discoloured considerably, owing to the suspected 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps that they run.
The pole-mounted example faces the unnamed main road through the village.
The detector from a Royce Thompson P42 two-part photocell is positioned at the front of the lantern, as it appears here.
The rather heavy-duty cable attached to the right-hand side of the pole dates to 1998, although, of course, the lighting installation is somewhat older than this.
The column-mounted example is situated near a short flight of steps that lead to several properties.
Moss has formed in the small gap between the column and the bracket, although it does not appear to have caused any structural issues for the installation for the time being.
Faint stress cracks are present in the lantern's bowl.
