164AH. Lillington Road, Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire Located in the centre of the Cubbington Road / Warren Close roundabout is a 12 m double-doored tubular steel column supporting a GEC ZD10606 post-top lantern for a 250 - 400 Watt MBF (mercury vapour; 'Truelite' in GEC parlance) or SON (high pressure sodium; 'Solarcolour' also in GEC terminology), or a 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamp. The column's central positioning on the roundabout allows a uniform light distribution to be created over the immediate gyratory, although from a practical point of view, gaining access to the lantern at this position would not be straightforward, and in the modern era, would require considerable traffic management / off-peak working. The column is supplemented with 10 m columns on the outer footways surrounding the roundabout, which although appearing to be of the same age as this central column is, may be sufficient for the roundabout to be lit adequately - if anything, the use of the central column seems slightly overkill.

Although the lantern measures 33 inches (838 mm) in diameter, when installed atop a 12 m column, it seems almost too small.

The lantern appears unaffected by the ravages of time, and still retains its (original?) copper-coloured metalwork. Notice the significant diameter change required to accommodate the lantern's 76 mm (3 inch) spigot entry on the much wider 140 mm (5·5 inch) column shaft.
