193E. Off the A458, Llanerfyl, Powys Attached to a wooden pole near the junction with Erw Deg is a redundant AC Ford AC 850 lantern for 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps. The lantern would have become redundant when a new 8 m column was installed adjacent, with Google Street View imagery dating back to 2009 showing that the column was present even then, although there appeared to be a cable feeding the pole bracket until November 2015, so the lantern may have remained operational for a further few years. The final death knell seems to have been when the column was replaced at a position that moved it closer to the pole, when the bracket's cable was severed.

The pole bracket is seen alongside its new conical aluminium column at the junction.

The AC 850 features a prismatic glass refractor bowl, although to a different design to that fitted to my Fordac-branded version.

The modern lantern is a Philips Luma LED product.

As well as supporting overhead electrical conductors, the pole also supports the local telecommunications cabling.

The disuse has led to a small amount of dirt accumulating in the bowl.

Erw Deg itself was lit with Thorn Beta 2 55 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps attached to 5 m sheet steel Stainton columns.

A convenient BT chamber lid nearby carried the year 1988 as its date of manufacture, giving an idea as to the age of the Beta 2s. As can be seen, the bowl on this example had filled with water.
