193H. Newport Road, Bedwellty Pits, Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent, Wales With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Situated opposite a convenient lay-by on this rural road is a 25 ft (8 m) Stanton 8 concrete column, with a long outreach F-type top-entry bracket and Revo C13723/T "Dalek" lantern. This 1960s' installation is no longer in operation, as a new 8 m tapered aluminium column supporting a Philips 'Iridium' SGS 253 is positioned alongside. Other sheet steel columns further up the road are also extant, but similarly, have new columns installed alongside, and yet, none have been removed, despite the new columns having been in place since October 2015 (at least).

Given the rural nature of the road, I am surprised that replacement lighting was even considered along here.

The top-entry version of the F-type bracket was never especially common, making this installation's survival all the more interesting.

The C13723/T would have run 140 Watt SO/H and SOI/H (low pressure sodium) lamps when new, but over time, as lamp technology evolved, it would have run 100 Watt (and latterly) 90 Watt SOX lamps instead.

With there being no footway for the columns to be installed in, they are positioned within the adjacent field instead, though the new one has a noticeably greater setback from the carriageway than its predecessor does.

The Revo lantern's Perspex bowl has become translucent with age, and a pool of rather emerald water exists within it.

The bracket's corner is in poor condition, with the concrete having broken away in this area.

Two of the lantern-less Petitjean / Stainton sheet steel columns further up the road are seen. In the background, tubular steel columns supporting a GEC Z9454 (or WRTL MRL 90) and Philips MA 90s are visible. These do not have replacement columns installed alongside.
