194AE. Carleton Road / Prince Road / Green Lane, Poynton, Cheshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Situated on these three roads (Carleton Road being the longest) are a number of vintage cast iron columns, all made to a similar pattern, and fitted with top-entry Thorn Beta 5 lanterns in the modern era, though the swan neck brackets supporting these lanterns are of varying types, depending on if and when replacement has been necessary. The Beta 5 is intended for running a 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamp, but all of these are converted to accommodate LED retro-fit lamps instead.

The first column to be seen at the southern end of Carleton Road is in a rather sorry-looking state, with its green paint flaking, and the cast iron having many rust patches.

This particular swan neck bracket is likely to be original to the column's installation in the (likely) 1930s.

A Charles Endirect CEX1000 photocell provides the automatic dusk - dawn switching.

The next installation along, on the opposite side of the road, was in much the same condition.

From this angle, the acrylic bowl is seen to have become slightly transparent.

The retro-fit lamp is a Venture Re-SOX, in this instance.

The next column along had a much fresher (and brighter) paint finish - I suspect that a resident living nearby must have repainted it.

The swan neck is of a more modern design on this installation. Notice that the new paint finishes a short distance up the swan neck, revealing a more faded green coat of paint that is peeling quite heavily, owing to the galvanised bracket preventing the paint from adhering correctly.

Cast into the inspection doors is "Needham - Stockport", meaning that the columns were cast especially locally to this location.

The following column saw a return to a less fresh paint application.

The replacement bracket here is more angular in design.

Moving onto Prince Road, where another (fairly) recently repainted column was to be found at the end.

An LED 'Corn' lamp was fitted here, along with an ST7316-type photocell.

Green Lane was home to two columns that were painted appropriately for the road name.

This Beta 5 is fitted with a SELC / Westire 8480 photocell.

The final column was another to use a rather angular replacement swan neck.

The bowl is damaged, with numerous stress cracks emanating from the hinge area.
