195C. Off Woodbourne Road, Sheffield With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Two top-entry AEI 'Baby Amber' 51/61009 60 Watt SO/H / SOI/H / 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lanterns are installed within the grounds of an industrial premises - the first is attached to a 1950s' Stanton 7 15 ft (5 m) concrete column supporting a Type 'A' swan neck bracket; the second is attached to the corner of the building, on a bracket that appears (very gradually) to be failing. Given that the AEI branding disappeared from street lighting equipment in 1967, following Thorn's buyout of the Company's lighting division then, at the time of photographing in July 2024, these installations were (at least) 57 years old.

The column-mounted example is situated on the site's perimeter.

Apart from having a grubby bowl interior, the lantern is in good condition for its age.

From the opposite direction, the column appears to be surrounded by buddleia and other bushes.

The distinctive copper or brass parts of the bowl clips are a feature of these lanterns.

The wall-mounted example is best observed from Cricket Inn Road.

As can be seen, the bracket is pulling away from its wall plate, with only a bolt appearing to hold both parts together.

A slight crack exists in the back of this lantern's bowl.

The bowl hinges comprise two split pins.

I assume that the lamp control gear is housed within the lantern, although from this angle, and through the slightly cloudy bowl, the lantern appears to contain the lamp only.
