195B. Deadman's Hole Lane, Sheffield With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Installed as the only street light along this short lane is a 1950s' Stanton 7 15 ft (5 m) concrete column supporting a Type 'A' swan neck bracket, with an unknown top-entry lantern attached. The installation lies derelict, and probably has been abandoned for many years - at some point after April 2019, the swan neck suffered damage (probably an impact from a high-sided vehicle using the adjacent premises), which has caused the lantern to face a rather peculiar angle.
The column with its stricken bracket looks very sorry for itself.
The impact has cracked the bracket in three places, with the top crack appearing to be the most severe.
The lantern is in dreadful condition, with heavy corrosion being present to the inside of the canopy, and the prismatic glass refractor dome being broken. The internal stem of a lamp survives in the centre.
The cable supplying the column was clipped along the adjacent wall, although only a small section of this remains. Judging by the vertical cable runs further to the right of this one, I suspect that there were two further columns installed along here in earlier times. Despite the supply to the remaining column being obviously dead, a modern Mallatite tubular steel door had been placed over the aperture - this has been struck by a vehicle, exposing the base components once again.
Trying to peer into the gap above the replacement door caused my camera's autofocus to go into meltdown; however, it can be observed that a large porcelain fuse is installed in the centre of the backboard, and no discharge lamp control gear exists, suggesting that the lantern ran tungsten filament (GLS) lamps when in use.
This view shows just how severe the bracket's lean now is.
A chunk of concrete is also missing from above the lantern.
A silhouette view of the bracket and lantern.
The refractor glass should be transparent, but has turned amber from the amount of dirt that has gathered on it.
