197F. Middleton Drive, Blackford Bridge, Whitefield, Bury, Greater Manchester With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Still extant on Middleton Drive in July 2024 are two 15 ft (5 m) Concrete Utilities' Estate Minor columns and side-entry Arc 2 brackets supporting ELECO HW 505 lanterns. Designed for running low pressure sodium lamps (originally SO/H and SOI/H, but SOX in more recent years), these lanterns are now fitted with LED retro-fit lamps instead, which will (hopefully!) ensure their survival well into the future.
Despite being around 60 years old when photographed, the columns are still in excellent condition.
The lantern would have had refractor panels attached to its long sides originally; the adhesive holding these has failed over the course of the lantern's life, causing the refractors to detach, and be lost at some point - probably, during a previous re-lamp.
The new lamps are 20 Watt 'Re-SOX' lamps made by Venture.
The other column is a little further down the road, on the opposite side.
A large break exists in the front of this lantern's bowl.
Again, the refractor panels are missing.
