209H. Recreation Drive, Southery, Downham Market, Norfolk With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed on three of the four corners of the loop part of this cul-de-sac are 15 ft (5 m) Concrete Utilities' Estate Minor columns, complete with swan neck brackets and Philips MI 51 lanterns - the top-entry version of the MI 50 - for 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps, although they run LED retro-fit lamps instead now. Two of the three installations are pictured below.
The columns are all in very good condition, and show no signs of spalling whatsoever.
The MI 51s could be be 1980s' replacements - had the columns been the later Estate Minor X type instead, I would be inclined to think that the lanterns were installed with the columns.
The detector for a Royce Thompson P42E two-part photocell (or similar) is positioned on the lantern's canopy.
The second installation demonstrates the reason that these are Estate Minor columns - the base is wider, whereas on the Estate Minor X, it is of the same tapering profile that the rest of the column is.
A Zodion SS55-type detector is employed here.
