211I. School Road Board / North River Road, Runham Vauxhall, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk Installed on these roads are a total of three 10 ft (3 m) tubular steel columns made by Stewarts & Lloyds, and dating from around the 1960s. Plain swan neck brackets support later Thorn Beta 5 lanterns, designed for running a 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamp originally, although two of the examples are now fitted with a Venture Re-SOX LED retro-fit lamp instead.

Two of these historical installations exist on School Board Road.

The column shafts are slightly wider than the bracket spigots are.

A SOX lamp is still employed here. Unusually for a top-entry Beta 5, the bowl clip is at the front of the lantern; ordinarily, these lanterns are installed 'backwards', as the NEMA photocell socket is installed towards the back of the canopy, and would be in the way of the bracket if installed the correct way around. As there is no NEMA socket visible, the lantern is able to be installed this way - it could be an older Beta 5 (or even an AEI Amber Minor) that didn't include provision for a NEMA socket on the canopy casting.

The second column is to be found a short distance further up the road.

This Beta 5 had been converted to LED. Curiously, it is installed with the bowl clip facing backwards, despite also not having any visible photocell on its canopy.

The column on North River Road is in poor condition, with its original door having been lost. A replacement door is in place, although a length of tape used ordinarily for marking the location of underground cables is used to plug the gap at the top.

When pictured in April 2025, the lantern was lit during the day, confirming that it had been converted away from its original SOX designation. There doesn't appear to be a photocell fitted here, although this 2024 Google Street View image captured when the door was missing doesn't show a time switch control installed in the base either.
