The Green / High Street, Frant, East Sussex Installed on the roads that lead across The Green and onto High Street are three 15 ft (5 m) cast iron columns, one of which is a Revo 'Woolwich' design; the other two are likely to be older, as they do not feature base compartments, and may have supported gas lanterns originally (though they could be Revo 'Crown' columns). The columns are all fitted with swan neck brackets, with two of them accommodating GEC Z8896 lanterns; the other being top-entry, and supporting a Thorn Beta 4. Although these lanterns were designed for mercury vapour (MBF) lamps, the Beta 4 (at least) now runs a compact fluorescent lamp instead.

This fluted column with Z8896 is at the junction of The Green and Frant Green Road. A small fuse box is provided at the base of the swan neck bracket; this has a damaged cover, although I suspect that the fuse box is redundant anyway, as a feeder pillar is installed alongside the column that will house the supply cut-out and any necessary lamp control gear (assuming that the lantern still runs an MBF lamp).

As seen with the Z8896 on page 214B, the Z8896s have canopies painted light grey - ordinarily, they are left unpainted.

A miniature photocell is installed on the side of the pillar as a means of switching the lantern on or off, as required.

The Revo 'Woolwich' column is to be found further up The Green. As this column has its own base compartment, there is no need to have the separate feeder pillar here.

The swan neck bracket is not original, and would probably be the same age as the Z8896.

Here, the minicell is installed on the lantern canopy.

The column supporting the Beta 4 is located at a point on High Street where the road splits two ways.

The so-called "compact" fluorescent lamp only just fits within the lantern's bowl area.

The combined fuse / time switch (originally) box here is an ESLA product, although the lettering (located to the left of the lock) is very faint.
