214H. Coopers Lane, Crowborough, East Sussex With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Attached to the wooden poles that support the overhead electricity supplies on this road are brackets made by AC Ford, with two of these supporting Thorn Beta 4 lanterns. The present lamp types of these cannot be determined, owing to the bowls having become discoloured through UV degradation, although this suggests that the lanterns may have run mercury vapour (MBF) lamps from new.

The first Beta 4 is located almost opposite the Cooper's Arms Public House.

Even taking into account the need to accommodate discharge lamp control gear remotely, the supplied boxes for housing this, along with the fused cut-out, seem rather large. A miniature photocell detector is visible on the side of the box.

The second Beta 4 is further down the hill.

Here, the minicell is positioned on the other side of the box, out of view.

As the 90 degree bracket elbow is to a wider diameter than the Beta 4's internal 3/4" BSP thread, a reducer is fitted that bridges between the two.
