217B. Chazey Road / Hewett Avenue, Caversham Heights, Reading, Berkshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed on a short section of (apparently) un-adopted carriageway at the ends of these two roads are several 15 ft (5 m) Concrete Utilities' Avenue 2D columns, mostly supporting a curved bracket, although one supports a 'Banstead' shepherd's crook bracket instead. On Chazey Road, the lanterns fitted are top-entry Thorn Beta 5s, for 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps, whereas on Hewett Avenue, GEC Z5590s are fitted instead.

This column on Chazey Road is obscured partially by an adjacent wooden pole supporting both overhead electrical supply cables, as well as telecommunications cables.

A Zodion photocell is employed here.

The column supporting the Banstead bracket is a little further down the road.

The bracket is in poor condition near its connection to the lantern. An LED retro-fit lamp can be glimpsed inside the Beta 5's discoloured polycarbonate bowl.

Moving to Hewett Avenue, where the first column supporting a Z5590 is seen emerging from the top of a hedge.

The curved brackets are relatively short, and unlike the Banstead design, do not incorporate a counterbalancing rear fin.

A small amount of rainwater has gathered in the bowl. As an elliptical lamp is also visible within, the lantern may still run an 80 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamp. The detector for a Royce Thompson P42 photocell is installed in the neck section of the lantern canopy.

The lower part of the second column has been cleaned using a pressure washer, revealing the concrete's original lighter finish.

There is also a small amount of rainwater in this Z5590's bowl.

Owing to the slightly tropical climate that has formed within the bowl, condensation is visible on the sides.
