217C. Off Bath Road, Dee Park, Reading, Berkshire Installed adjacent an access to a car garage complex is a 1950s' 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 7 concrete column, topped with an A-type swan neck bracket and Revo C14408/T "Bell Top" lantern. The installation appears to have become abandoned, and as its supply cable is cut within the base, would no longer be able to be brought back into service anyway.
The column shows signs of damage to its shaft, and also at its joint with the bracket.
A very minor water ingress issue exists within the lantern's plain glass bowl.
With the bowl having become flooded, trying to ascertain whether a lamp remains fitted in the lantern is difficult.
As the column's door is missing, exposing an MEM (Midland Electrical Manufacturing) 'Memette' cast iron cut-out and the remains of a Horstmann time switch base in the process, the lack of any discharge lamp control gear on the backboard suggests that the lantern probably ran a simple tungsten filament (GLS) lamp when in operation.
