218A. Old Chorleywood Road, Batchworth, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Positioned amongst well-established trees on this short service road is a 25 ft (8 m) Avenue 3DNN concrete column with Arc 2 side-entry bracket (made by Concrete Utilities of nearby Ware) supporting a GEC Z9454 lantern for 140 Watt SO/H and SOI/H, and 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lamps. A second, identical, example existed further up the road until May 2022 (at least), but had been replaced by October 2024 when these pictures were taken - I suspect that the sole remaining column has survived purely because the overgrown foliage surrounding it prevents its removal.
Much of the column is obscured by trees, although the lantern itself is visible.
The lack of an internal reflector above the lamp confirms that this is the Z9454, with the lamp control gear mounted remotely. The NEMA photocell socket appears to be positioned in the centre of the canopy, in the position that would be used to attach the top-entry version of this lantern, the Z9455, to its bracket.
Slightly more of the curved Arc 2 bracket is visible from this angle.
A large amount of concrete appears to have been lost from below the bracket.
With the lantern being so close to the trees, the underside of the bowl is peppered with accumulated dirt.
