2ABA. Church Drive, New Boultham, Bracebridge, Lincoln With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Installed along this cul-de-sac are four 15 ft (5 m) Stanton 10 concrete columns, with three of these retaining their original A-type (swan neck) brackets and Philips MI 51 35 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lanterns (the top-entry version of the MI 50). These lanterns are unlikely be original to when the columns were installed, however, but probably served as replacements for the original lanterns in the late 1970s or early 1980s.

The first of the installations was to be found only a short distance from Boultham Park Road.

Typically, this lantern was obscured by overhanging tree foliage.

Along with the bowl being uncharacteristically yellowed for running a SOX lamp (though this may be accumulated grime from the proximity to the tree), this is an unusual version of the MI 51, where the side-entry bracket hole is plugged, and a top-entry connector installed instead.

This may be a very early MI 51 that was produced prior to Philips altering the casting for top-entry versions. Oddly, both a one part SELC / Westire photocell is installed on the canopy, along with a two-part photocell detector.

The next column along had been sleeved, and now supported a Philips 'Residium' FGS 224 36 Watt PL-L (compact fluorescent) lantern instead, but after that, it was very much a return to the original brackets.

The joint between the column and bracket looked to be in good condition, which may be why the remainder of the installations avoided being sleeved.

As a comparison to the lantern seen above, this MI 51 has no side-entry plug, and the NEMA socket is positioned further forward on the canopy.

The final installation was to be found a short distance from the end of the road. The column was leaning backwards slightly, and had probably been bumped by a larger vehicle trying to turn in the available space.

The existing lamp in this lantern looked rather worn.
