2AB. Dixon Close, Lincoln With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Attached to a Stanton 10 15 ft (5 m) concrete column by means of a rather precarious-looking swan neck bracket is a top-entry Phosco P283 55 Watt SOX lantern (although a smaller 35 Watt lamp is fitted). The top-entry version of this lantern is especially rare, and looks rather bizarre in this form, compared to the (formerly) more common side-entry version, the P226.
This is the only installation of its type on Dixon Close; the other lights are all far more modern and were probably installed when the road was extended to become home to a number of industrial premises, known collectively as the Sunningdale Trading Estate. An identical installation did exist previously at the start of the road, however.
A considerable amount of insulation tape is wrapped around the joint between the column and the bracket.
The slightly offset top-entry connector on this lantern, combined with the narrow radius of the bracket, must have meant that screwing the lantern into place would have been tight, with its front end being only just able to miss hitting the bracket.
From below, the gap seems even more restrictive.
This view indicates the reason for the rather copious amount of tape - a large chunk of concrete is missing from the lower portion of the bracket!
