31B. Ash Road, Wednesbury, Sandwell, West Midlands With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. At the junction of Hawthorne Lane is a Stanton 10F 15 ft (5 m) concrete column supporting a top-entry Thorn Beta 5 35 Watt SOX lantern. This combination was still relatively common in 2023, but one major difference is that the lantern had been fitted with the shallow bowl from a newer example, which will not fit the frame of the earlier version correctly without considerable modification to the lantern.
From the ground, the lantern looks relatively normal.
The zoomed-in image shows that things are a bit different, however. The bowl clip is broken (the original, deep bowl having been lost because of this), resulting in a cable tie being wrapped around the lantern. The shallower bowls will fit these lanterns but only if the lampholder support bracket is shortened, as may have happened here.
There is also damage to the bowl, although this may pre-date its fitting to this Beta 5.
The lantern is slightly misaligned in relation to the bracket. A Royce Thompson Oasis 1000 photocell is fitted.
