31C. Brunswick Park Road / Hydes Road, Wednesbury, Sandwell, West Midlands With thanks to Dwight for informing me of these Survivors. Still extant on both of these roads in 2023 are 1960s' Stanton 1808 25 ft (8 m) concrete columns supporting separate gear Revo Lucidor A lanterns for 140 Watt SO/H and SOI/H lamps, and (most recently) 90 Watt SOX lamps.
The outreach brackets on these columns are noticeably short in length.
Conversely, the bracket spigot into the lantern is slightly too long, leaving an exposed section of pipe between the concrete and the lantern.
The first of the two examples on Hydes Road is to be found near the junction with Rydding Lane.
This example's Royce Thompson P42 photocell detector has detached from its position on the top of the lantern over-shoe, and points downwards. It may have been dislodged by the branches of adjacent trees. Although it was still receiving sufficient ambient light to avoid causing the lantern to dayburn in this state, I wonder whether its proximity to the bowl would cause it to switch off if light from the lantern fell onto the detector.
The second example was to be found near Woden Road South.
This is the second incarnation of the Lucidor; the original version saw the bracket fitted at a position on top of the canopy. The length of the lantern meant that the angle of some brackets would foul the rear end of the canopy, and so Revo redesigned the bracket entry point to the more standard end of the lantern instead.
