38C. Stanton Gate, Stanton By Dale, Ilkeston Installed adjacent a disused railway siding leading to the former Stanton Ironworks, is a makeshift tubular steel column supporting a GEC Z8526 'Turtle' lantern, although it is missing its bowl and appears vandalised and abandoned. Formerly, the site was occupied by Stanton Gate Station, which closed in 1967, although the installation will post-date the station by a number of years.

The column looks to have base-hinging abilities, to allow maintenance from ground level, although it isn't any sort of official hinged column.

Several airgun pellet marks are visible at the front of the canopy.

The top section of the column pipe is formed into a rather angular swan neck bracket, to position the lantern straight above the vertical section.

The wide canopy prevents a lamp from being seen within the lantern - assuming that one remains intact, of course.
