46G. Main Road, Exminster, Devon With thanks to Louis Cunningham for informing me of this Survivor. Installed on a raised piece of land above Main Road is an abandoned Revo C14408/T "Bell Top" lantern attached to a makeshift column and bracket arrangement. Even by 2008, the installation was disused. Given the rather Heath-Robinson nature of the column, this may have been a private installation dating from a time prior to actual street lighting being installed along the road, and provided for the benefit of pedestrians traversing the section at night, as there is no footway provided.
The column looks to be a short section of scaffolding tube that has been adapted to accommodate the bracket and rudimentary ladder bars.
No lamp or bowl remains in the lantern, although the internal enamelled reflector is still extant.
From the front, the installation resembles a shower more closely than it does a street light!
The lampholder is visible within the lantern - as there is no lamp cap present, the last lamp to be used must have been removed manually, rather than having broken.
