46F. Teignmouth Road, Torquay, Devon With thanks to Louis Cunningham for informing me of this Survivor. Installed adjacent an electrical substation on land that was home to the Watcombe Pottery between 1869 and 1962 is a 15 ft (5 m) Concrete Utilities' Byway X column with an ELECO PT 1031 post-top lantern providing the illumination. The installation is probably there for the benefit of substation staff accessing the site after nightfall, and may be switched manually from within the building, rather than operating dusk - dawn, as a conventional street light would be.

With ELECO also making concrete columns, and CU also making lanterns (under their Phosware brand), the combination of this lantern and column is slightly surprising.

A small amount of spalling is visible in the concrete at the top of the column.

Aside from a small airgun pellet in the bowl, the lantern is in good condition.
