5BA. Beechwood Park Drive, Darley Abbey Located on a footpath leading into the Catherine McAuley Convent of Mercy at Beechwood House is a 5 m tubular steel column supporting a Thorn Gamma 6 post-top lantern. This Gamma 6 example is a little more unusual than most types are, as it features a wide top canopy and narrow base casting, suggesting that the lamp control gear is housed within the column base, although as the installation is private, there is a possibility that it is not configured for running any sort of discharge lamp anyway; instead, it may run a lamp designed for running directly off the mains - possibly, a tungsten filament (GLS) lamp originally.

The column is nestled in amongst some established trees and bushes, behind a locked gate.

The canopy appears rather buckled, and much of its paint has worn off over time. The column diameter is narrower than the usual 76 mm measurement, leaving a noticeable gap between the shaft and the base casting.
