69CD. Off Earl's Way, Halesowen, Dudley, West Midlands Attached to a building within a substation compound at the junction of Dudley Road are two Revo "Bell Top" C14403/T lanterns, along with a shovel-type floodlight around the corner of the building. The C14403 was designed for running 60 - 200 Watt GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamps, while the C14404 (in this optical setup) was designed for 80 - 125 Watt MBF (mercury vapour) lamps; the only difference being that this had a three-pin bayonet lampholder, whereas the C14403 had a standard two-pin lampholder. I believe that these examples will be C14403s as they are wired in steel conduit, and there are no enclosures that would house the necessary lamp control gear along the run, had MBF lamps been used.
The building is situated some distance from the road, requiring a small amount of zoom to be applied before the lanterns could be identified.
The Perspex bowls of both lanterns have become translucent with age, though the left-hand example's bowl is the worse of the two in this respect.
The prismatic glass refractor dome is partially visible within the right-hand example.
The shovel floodlight overlooks the impressive high voltage transformer area at the side of the substation.
