81BD. Barker Street, Beasley, Chesterton, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Situated at the junction of Meadow Street, in the centre of a former access road, is a 25 ft (8 m) Stanton 8 concrete column, supporting a G-type double-arm bracket and twin GEC Z9454 90 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lanterns.
With the column now sandwiched between security fencing on one side, and concrete panelling (along with a marquee) on the other, in all likelihood, the lanterns are probably no longer operational, and if they are, once their lamps fail, I cannot see them being repaired.
Although not obvious in this image, the vertical part of the bracket is cracked in multiple places.
A section of concrete has broken away from the bracket that carries the right-hand lantern.
The gaskets on both lanterns have worked loose, causing them to sag in places.
The bracket appears to be installed 90 degrees out of its intended positioning, creating a noticeable step between it and the column. This may have been a necessity, owing to the inspection door being positioned to face away from the public road.
