97FE. Hawthorn Close, Boley Park, Lichfield, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Situated on this short cul-de-sac are four 5 m tubular aluminium columns, each supporting a GEC Z5680 post-top lantern. The lanterns may have run MBF (mercury vapour) lamps originally, but may now run an LED (light-emitting diode) source instead, as no lamp control gear remains in the column bases; the supply cables to the lanterns connect directly into the cut-outs (using connector blocks to through-joint the cables, following the removal of any gear components). The switching methods of these lanterns is also unknown; there may be miniature photocells attached to the lantern canopies, or the lights may be switched from the adjacent Hawthorn House residential home.

The first column is to be found a short distance up the slight incline from Burton Old Road West.

Much of the copper colouring to the lantern's aluminium canopy has worn away.

The second column is situated within the grounds of Hawthorn House.

This canopy has retained slightly more of its paintwork.

The third column found itself in the shadow of a large tree.

Possibly because of the proximity to the tree, the inside of this lantern's bowl was grubbier than the rest were.

"472" is stamped into both the column and its door. Whilst April 1972 is a possible date for the lanterns, the columns seem newer than this, as do the internal GEC-Henley cut-outs, so the number is probably not related to the installation's age.

The final column's base is surrounded by bushes.

Out of the four lanterns, the canopy is in best condition on this example.
