97KG. Beau Court, Broomhill, Cannock, Staffordshire With thanks to AgentHalogen_87 for informing me of these Survivors. Situated on the original part of Beau Court are three 5 m Thorn 'Sheerline' sheet aluminium columns with Type 4 side-entry brackets and Philips MI 80 55 Watt SOX (low pressure sodium) lanterns. The combination of these products hints at a 1980s' heritage, although the mixture of Thorn and Philips is unusual - it wasn't as if Thorn didn't have their own 55 Watt lanterns during this decade; the Beta 8 appearing in catalogues until 1983, being replaced by the Beta 2 in 1984. Still, the unusual pairing makes for an interesting blend of two rival companies' products.
The first column from Hednesford Road has a black plastic bag taped around the base compartment - I assume that the door has gone missing, and this is the method employed to plug the hole.
There doesn't appear to be any sort of photocell control on this lantern, but then again, as there is no lamp fitted either, this probably does not matter too much!
A small hole exists in the underside of the bowl, but generally, the lantern interior seems relatively clean, despite the apparent disuse.
The second column was positioned adjacent a communal parking area.
This lantern also appeared to have become disused; a pool of water had formed within the bowl.
The final column was behind a fence at the far end of the car park. The presence of a floodlight mounted to the column suggested that this MI 80 had fallen out of use too.
Moss had begun to form on both the canopy and bowl - nothing that some hot, soapy water wouldn't resolve, however!
