97KJ. Wolverhampton Road, Cannock, Staffordshire With thanks to Dwight for informing me of this Survivor. Looking decidedly out of place on a footpath between Wolverhampton Road and Clifton Avenue is a 1950s' 25 ft (8 m) Avenue 3DNN column and Arc 2 side-entry bracket, both made by Concrete Utilities, nowadays supporting a Philips MA 90 lantern for 90 Watt SOX (low-pressure sodium) lamps (though with this being Staffordshire, a 66 Watt SOX-E lamp is likely to be fitted instead). The reason for this unusual off-road setup can be attributed to the footpath being part of Wolverhampton Road itself in the past, prior to alterations closing off this portion of the road, and diverting traffic along Avon Road instead. Rather than remove the column as part of these works, it has remained in place, even losing its original lantern to the MA 90 in the process.

The MA 90 must do a splendid job of illuminating the surrounding grass verge that was planted after the removal of the old carriageway!

The bracket is in reasonable condition, with only a small break existing at the end of the rear fin section.

This appears to be an earlier version of the "gear in lantern" MA 90, as there is no front bowl clip - a feature added on later examples to improve sealing within the lantern. As only a minimal amount of dirt visible on the bowl, the additional clip was not always necessary.

The original 'drop latch' lock securing the door may have failed, as two bolts are drilled into the top of the door panel to hold it in place.
