Off Rome Street, Currock, Blackwell, Carlisle, Cumberland Attached to an industrial building is a shovel-shaped floodlight produced by REAL (Rowlands Electrical Accessories Ltd) - the same manufacturer as with my D3748 60 Watt SLI/H (linear low pressure sodium) fitting. The floodlight seen here, however, is of the far more standard design, with the Benjamin Duoflux being the commonest type seen, even in the modern era. Historical mapping shows that the site was once a leather works (the Escott Works by the 1940s; previously, the Lamplugh Works), with the building to which the floodlight is attached serving (possibly) as a gatehouse or similar.

The building's architectural style means that both it and the floodlight are likely to be of similar vintage. Proof that the shovel floodlight is no longer in operation is seen by the adjacent modern LED floodlight.

Unlike the Benjamin design, the REAL equivalent has a more angular front section.

Cast into the cruciform-shaped wall-mounting plate are the REAL letters.

Although grubby, the internal enamelled reflector is in good condition, although the sheet aluminium panel behind the lamp has the expected corrosion visible.

Remarkably, a high wattage GLS (incandescent tungsten filament) lamp remains installed within the floodlight.
