Off Ratcliffe Road, Atherstone, North Warwickshire With thanks to Leo Conway for informing me of these Survivors. Installed at the entrance to the former 3M coated abrasive factory is a 25 ft (8 m) sleeved Stanton 8 concrete column supporting a Revo Horizon Major lantern, for 250 - 400 Watt mercury vapour lamps. This lantern will have been re-used after the original bracket (likely, an 'F'-type design) was replaced. Within the factory site itself, more Horizons were visible, along with columns supporting Thorn Alpha 3s, with the lamp gear installed within them, and two very rare Phosware P211 lanterns, also for 250 - 400 Watt mercury lamps. With the factory having opened in 1964, the installations are likely to be of similar age to this. What now becomes of them, following the closure in early 2024, has yet to be determined.

The combination of the older lantern attached to the newer bracket makes for an unusual sight.

The Horizon Major also houses the lamp control gear within the lantern body. This example is in excellent condition, and I hope that it can be saved.

Looking back into the former factory site, a selection of other columns and lanterns can be seen. First are two further Stanton 8s supporting Horizon Majors on replacement brackets.

One side faces the factory access road, while the other faces the former staff car park.

Zooming still further allows the Alpha 3s and P211s to be seen, as well as some far newer columns supporting LED floodlights. Notice that the two double arm concrete brackets are not the same - the one supporting the Alpha 3s is a Stanton 'G' type (the double version of the F), whereas the one supporting the P211s is a 'Highway' type, made by the column division of Phosware (and main rival to Stanton) - Concrete Utilities, suggesting that this column is a 'Highway-X'; the CU version of the Stanton 8.
