185. Off Welsh Road, Garden City, Deeside Located at the entrance to the former Shotton Steelworks (latterly, a part of the Corus group) is a double-arm Concrete Utilities' 'Highway X' 8 m concrete column supporting two GEC Z9454 90 Watt SOX lanterns. With the site set to be redeveloped for housing in the near future, this installation is likely to disappear before too much longer.

The installation is (virtually) symmetrical in appearance.

The lamp in the left-hand lantern appears to have failed.

The right-hand lamp looks to be in better condition, however.

The column's inspection door is missing, allowing the two lamp control gear sets to be seen. Notice that a Thorn ballast and ignitor have been used to replace the original second GEC leak transformer at some point. Sadly, even if this column retains a live service (which is unlikely), the lanterns are no longer operational, as the fuse has been removed from the Lucy cut-out. The column base is in poor condition, with a large portion of the internal rebar having become exposed over time.
